Tanglewood

Once recognized by the National Association of Home Builders in Washington, D.C. as one of the five best planned subdivisions in the United States, Tanglewood is located in the shadows of the Galleria area.

Tanglewood was born in the mid-1940s when the William Farrington Company purchased 300 acres west of the Houston city limits from the Humble Pipeline Company, now Exxon. Several years later, an additional tract was purchased and Tanglewood grew to include an area north of Woodway. Now, Tanglewood consists of 15 sections and is also home to the Houston Country Club.

The neighborhood enjoys the benefit of a beautifully landscaped and maintained path that runs through its central park-like esplanade on Tanglewood Boulevard. Resplendent with benches and hardscape amenities, it attracts joggers, cyclists and neighbors just out for a stroll. In addition, Tanglewood boasts its own neighborhood patrol.

In recent years, attracted by its very large lots sizes and great location, developers have focused their attention on tearing down functionally obsolete one story homes on large, treed lots and building magnificent new residences that adhere to stringent deed restrictions governing front and side property setbacks and, prior to building, and whose plans had to be approved by the Architectural Control Committee. Now, Traditional, Georgian, Contemporary, and Mediterranean style homes can be found lining the boulevard.

Home sizes grew from 2,500 square feet to 6,000 square feet and much more, offering second or third floor game rooms, quarters, swimming pools and fountains, large kitchens, studies and open family rooms.
